Safe Harbor

One of our Missions at Bushkill UMC is Safe Harbor, an adult temporary homeless shelter located in downtown Easton.  Our members contribute to this fund through the collection of nickles which are placed in the "Nickle Jar" in the Narthex for anyone who wishes to help fill it.  The funds are used to purchase food for the homeless of Safe Harbor.  

Recently, when the jar was full a total of $65.49 was collected and a total of $65.38 was used to purchase the following food:  21 lbs. of chicken legs, 15 lbs. of sausage grillers, 5 lbs. of hot dogs, 5 #10 cans of vegetables, 4 dozen eggs, 5 loaves of bread, 10 lbs. of potatoes, 6 lbs. of margarine, 10 lbs. of sugar and 2 gallons of milk.  This was accomplished by a very smart shopper!

Compassion International

Another Mission we support is our Haitian child, Bonite.  Bonite is the child the UMW sponsors through Compassion International.  Sponsorship is $38.00 per month.  There is a sign up sheet on the Bulletin Board in the Narthex for those who wish to be a sponsor for a particular month.  Donations can be given to Pastor Ken or Cathy Cummins.

Project Linus

This project was named for Linus of the Charlie Brown cartoons who always carried his "blankie" with him.  The United Methodist Women make (knit, crochet or fleece) baby blankets which are placed in the Pediatric Ward of Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.  Blankets are offered to any child who has an overnight stay in the hospital.

The blankets may range in size from 18" x 24" (used for "preemies"), 24" x 36" (toddlers), 36" x 45" (Elementary age), and 40" x 60" (teenagers).  A small square label is sewn on each blanket designating that they were lovingly made by ladies of Bushkill UMC. The UMW received a Thank You note from Lehigh Valley Hospital and a request to share our blankets with the little children in the Cancer Center of the Lehigh Valley.
